I’ve eaten at Mon Ami Gabi on every single trip I’ve taken to Vegas for the last four years. That’s not an exaggeration – when you’ve found a sure thing, you keep going back to it. Other restaurants get considered. Mon Ami Gabi gets booked.

My recommendation: go for lunch, get the Croque Madame or the Prime Cheeseburger & Frites. In fairness, I’ve only had dinner there once but it didn’t surpass my lunch experiences. Sadly, my original favorite, a Ham & Gruyere omelet, isn’t on the menu anymore — but the two dishes above have more than earned their spot as the new standard. If you want the full story of how I got here, keep reading.

THE las vegas restaurant WE NEVER SKIP

It started in 2022, the year Deirdre and I both turned 50. Mom and I went to Vegas together to meet up with Deirdre and Patsy, and brunch at Mon Ami Gabi was already on the agenda before we’d even landed — one of those unofficial traditions that becomes official the second you say it out loud. I ordered the Ham & Gruyere omelet that morning, and I can still taste it — I’ve tried to recreate it at home more than once and it’s come close, but never quite landed the same. It’s since come off the menu, so that particular craving is officially unsolvable now, which somehow makes me want it more.

Two years later, we were back for mom’s 80th birthday — another Vegas trip, another Mon Ami Gabi brunch, this time with Terry and Philip surprising her at the table. Unable to order the omelet, I found the next closest thing…Croque Madame. It’s a variation on a Croque Monsieur — a grilled ham and gruyere sandwich, but with an egg on top meant to resemble a woman’s hat. Turned out to be the order that would stick – and good news, it’s still on the menu!

In April 2026, I was back in Vegas again for work, and a group of us landed at Mon Ami Gabi for a business dinner — my first time trying it outside of lunch. The appetizers were genuinely great: deviled eggs, a grilled artichoke, a charcuterie and artisanal cheese board that disappeared fast. I ordered the surf and turf special for my entree, and this is where I have to be honest: it was the one meal in four years that didn’t fully deliver. The steak was seasoned and cooked well, but the shrimp on the plate were noticeably overcooked. We were a large group, and I know how service can slip under that kind of pressure, so I didn’t say anything. But it’s stayed with me as the one asterisk on an otherwise perfect track record.

Two days later, my partner Al landed in Vegas for the first time in his life, and Mon Ami Gabi went straight back on the agenda — non-negotiable, dinner disappointment or not. He’s a genuine foodie, not a self-declared one, and I’ll admit I was a little nervous I’d hyped it up too much. I didn’t need to be. Brunch delivered exactly the way it always does. I ordered my Croque Madame, creature of habit that I am. After a good bit of deliberation, Al ordered the Prime Cheeseburger — our server’s description made it hard to pass up. It was excellent — so excellent that Al was disappointed we’d agreed to split our plates. What he didn’t know is that the second I took my first bite of my own Croque Madame, I was having the exact same regret. We laughed about it a few weeks later when we both admitted that neither of us really wanted to share that day.

I’m headed back to Vegas in November to meet up with Patsy and Deirdre again, and Mon Ami Gabi is, obviously, already on the itinerary. The only real question this time is whether I order the Croque Madame or give that Prime Cheeseburger its own moment, no sharing required.

MUST DO

  • The Croque Madame. Ham, gruyere, egg on top, and it’s held up as my go-to order for two years running.
  • The Brunch Burger, if you can get your own. Built from the prior night’s prime cuts — ask before you assume it’s a regular burger.
  • Brunch over dinner, if you have to choose. Every disappointment I’ve had here happened at dinner; every meal I still think about happened before noon.

CAN SKIP

  • The surf and turf dinner special, at least the shrimp portion. The steak was fine. The shrimp weren’t.
  • Sharing plates with someone you actually like. You will regret it and then lie about regretting it for weeks.
  • Going in hoping for the Ham & Gruyere omelet. It’s off the menu now — worth knowing before you build a whole brunch around chasing it, the way I once did.

TOP TIPS

  • Go for lunch if there’s any flexibility in your schedule — it’s the stronger meal, visit after visit.
  • Order your own version of whatever you’re craving. Splitting sounds generous in the moment and never is.
  • If you’re going with a group for dinner, don’t assume the kitchen can hold the same pace as brunch service — order accordingly.

Four years in, the menu has changed, my order has adapted, and I’m still showing up every single trip anyway.
