Two GenXers. One Long Weekend at a Time.
About nine months after Maura and Al met — in the spring of 2024 — Maura got invited to a wedding. In India. And being the impulsive one in this relationship, she turned to Al and asked if he’d want to go to an Indian wedding. In India. She fully expected him to say “are you crazy?”
He said: “When?” And that, honestly, is everything you need to know about us.
| 01. WHO WE ARE
We’re Maura and Al — a couple of fifty-somethings based in the Charlotte, NC area, who met in 2024 and have basically been in motion ever since. Between us we have five kids, flexible remote work situations, and a shared conviction that the in-between years are too good to waste on the couch.
In a little over two years, we’ve managed to rack up quite a list:
- Asheville, NC (to see an Olympian volleyball player)
- India (the wedding that started it all)
- Kentucky (bourbon tours and Churchill Downs, obviously)
- Boston (newlyweds, cannolis from Mike’s Pastry, city tours)
- Sugar Mountain — twice, for skiing
- Antigua (adults-only all-inclusive, no regrets)
- Las Vegas (what finally made us start writing it all down)
We’re already debating where to go next — which is its own adventure, because between the two of us we’ve already been to most of each other’s bucket list destinations. Turns out that’s not a problem. You can never visit a place too many times. You just see it differently.
| 02. THE IN-BETWEEN YEARS
If you’re in your late 40s or 50s, you know exactly what we mean. The kids are older. The career is established. Life hasn’t necessarily slowed down — but something has shifted. You have long weekends back. Real ones. Ones that belong to you.
That’s the sweet spot we live in, and it’s the sweet spot we write for. Not retirement travel. Not backpacking in your 20s. The in-between years — where you finally have the time, the budget, and the hard-won wisdom to travel the way you actually want to.

Here’s the honest truth: we travel nothing alike. And somehow, that’s exactly why this works.
MEET AL
History buff. Itinerary architect. The man who will research a destination for weeks, build a thoughtful day-by-day plan — and then schedule a late start and a built-in flex afternoon into every single day. He’s the reason we always know what we’re looking at. And the reason Maura doesn’t mutiny by day two.

Impulsive. Flexible. Happiest when there’s a good plan she didn’t have to make — with enough breathing room to go off-script when something better appears around the corner. She’s the reason we found that little wine bar nobody reviewed. She keeps things loose so the magic has room to happen.
